When Umbro wanted a bespoke tailor for the design of the new England kit they came to Charlie Allen. Charlie was hesitant at first, but it soon became apparent that Umbro were serious about bringing real English tailoring to sports wear. Charlie has extensive experience in design consultancy but this was a completely new experience, sports wear isn't known for it's tailoring. The experience of a bespoke suit is unique, when a piece of clothing fits you perfectly it allows you to move with grace while hiding all of your flaws, simply bliss. When Charlie got involved in the design and development of the new Umbro England shirt, he wanted to make sure he brought the bespoke fit to the kit, not only allowing the players the move with freedom they need, but so they feel special, so they feel like world beaters. In the past Charlie has made bespoke suits for many sports stars including former England defender Sol Campbell, but measuring the players for a bespoke football kit was certainly a novel experience. As a life-long football fan and dedicated Arsenal season ticket holder the opportunity to meet and measure up all the national team was a dream day for Charlie.
Working with Umbro, David Blanch and Aitor Throup, on this project has been a fantastic experience. There has been a dedicated team of people making sure we product the best England kit possible and I'm very proud of what we have achieved.
