Umbro hires Charlie Allen to overhaul England strip

Umbro has hired Savile Row-trained tailor Charlie Allen to overhaul the England football strip.
Charlie Allen, who has his own ready-to-wear and bespoke tailoring ranges, will unveil the new strip at the England v Slovakia game, which takes place on March 28.
The design has been kept well under wraps, according to The Independent on Sunday. Retail buyers are not thought to have seen the shirt yet.
However the newspaper said that Charlie Allen’s design would be, off-white, retro in style with influences from the 1966 shirt, and that it would feature a collar as well as a redesigned three-lions emblem, based on a streamlined version of the logo from 1948.
The day after the Slovakia game a temporary store dedicated to the strip will open for two weeks in London. The store will have a tailor who will measure shoppers up for a bespoke version of the kit.
Sportswear retailers will hope that the hype around the new shirt launch will bring a sales boost in their replica shirt departments.
